Shell Station

Although its gas prices are some of the highest in Seattle, the Shell station near Bush is one of the go-to places for students when they are looking to buy after-school snacks, drinks, etc. before sports practices or on their way home. It’s also very convenient that it’s so close to Bush because when you’re really low on gas, you can put just enough money in to take you to a cheaper station! 😉

Denny Blaine

Denny Blaine is a cool place to just go and hang out with some friends, and is super close to campus. People flock to DB when the weather gets nice to have little picnics or just relax. Be warned though, along with Bush students, many adults come to Denny Blaine to do some nude tanning, so you may or may not see some naked people if you decide to venture over there.

The Arb

The Washington Park Arboretum is a large park that is just past the Shell gas station– also walking distance from school and right across the street from Washington Park Playfield. It’s great place to go for a jog, and you might run into some cross country team runners along the way!

Belle Epicurean is a favorite of some students — who specifically like it’s atmosphere for off-campus relaxation. It has a fairly sophisticated vibe with it’s fancy French pastries and luckily it’s close enough for school that you only need to walk for a few minutes to get there. Not only is Belle a cafe which has pastries, it also contains a provisions marketplace which is pretty cool. Definitely hit up Belle for breakfast, lunch, or drinks, or if you’re just looking to snag a macaron after school.

Essential is a cute little cafe located near the school where students go to get crepes, omelets, tea, and pastries as well salads and sandwiches. They serve local coffee and juices and pride themselves on using only “the best ingredients” to create “superior artisan baked goods” — and you can tell. It’s close enough to walk there, eat, and walk back all within lunch and generally they serve the food up really quickly. Definitely one of the best spots for lunch in the area and a great space to just relax as well.
